Wherwell Church Bells
Celebrating Her Majesty's 90th Birthday
The Wherwell Ringers gathered together on 21st April to ring the bells in celebration of Her Majesty's Actual birthday and rang again on 12th June for her official Official birthday
As recorded in the June Village magazine they also 'raised a glass' to her.
Ringing in the new Royal
In July 2013, the arrival of Prince George Alexander Louis was celebrated by bells in Westminster Abbey and in churches all round the country, and Wherwell was no exception, when Liz Blakemore and Sue Blazdell represented our team of campanologists.
The chiming began with the formal peals of the Grandsire Doubles then quickly developed into lively and joyful improvisation, well befitting the occasion.
We expect to restore full circle ringing of the bells before long, but the Ellacombe system which is now in use at Wherwell means that not only can one single chimer perform peals on all five bells at once, but also that creative and tuneful chiming is possible. Listen out for Happy Birthday next July 22nd.
